“Lieutenant,” Captain Nikane greets, a hardness in her voice that isn’t for him. “You have the best Palici between us, I believe?”

“If I wanted a beast on me,” the prisoner says in perfect Gealenn, “I would have fucked your horse instead of poisoning it.”
